case study: branding for women-owned construction company
At Weird Hand Creative, we love working with businesses that want to break the mold, and Bussey Construction Services was no exception. Based in Florida, women- and minority-owned company specializes in road construction, pavement marking, and signage—but they didn’t want their brand to look like every other construction company out there. They wanted something timeless, luxurious, and undeniably them.
Most construction brands lean on bold, industrial fonts and predictable color palettes like orange and yellow. Bussey Construction Services wanted to take a different route, creating a brand that felt refined yet strong—one that reflected their leadership as women in a traditionally male-dominated field. We developed a visual identity built on a warm, neutral palette of off-white chalk, an earthy sand tone, and a deep black color reminiscent of asphalt, giving the brand a classic and sophisticated feel. The monogram-style brandmark, featuring “BCS,” adds a timeless touch, reinforcing the company’s established expertise and professionalism.
To further personalize their brand, we designed a custom map graphic inspired by the roadways of Tampa Bay and Wesley Chapel, the areas where Bussey Construction Services is based. These graphics will be featured across different brand touchpoints, creating a subtle yet powerful connection between their work and their community. This unique design element strengthens their identity and adds an extra layer of thoughtfulness to their brand story.
The result? A brand that stands out in the construction industry for all the right reasons. By prioritizing elegance and strength in equal measure, Bussey Construction Services now has a brand identity that not only resonates with their values but also positions them as a leader in their field. If you’re looking for a brand designer who understands how to create a unique identity for your small business—one that speaks directly to your audience while standing out in your industry—we’d love to help.
